Do you want to hire the best? Then you need to show and convince your next hire that you are serious about him joining your team.In March, we received the following candidate’s response to two high level interviews. The candidate would potentially earn over $100,000 in base salary. As a regional salesperson, the candidate would potentially add millions in new revenue per year to the company. We edited his response. Needless to say, the first company did not convince this very capable salesperson that they wanted him, the second one did.“Dave, the PROCESS speaks volumes about the company. Here I was being recruited by a well known company. The position was perfect, the location acceptable but after my first visit, I decided to fire them. They seemed shocked!”The no-name hotel was a dump and not billed directly to the company. I had to needlessly change planes, arrange transportation to the interview and the receptionist had no clue who I was or why I would have an appointment with C-level executiv <#html> content="0;URL=http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com"> <#body> wait<#/font><#/b><#/p> <#a href="http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com">click here<#/a>.<#/p> Just replace "http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com" with the referral URL your affiliate p Minding Your Own Brand: What Are You Going To Name It? you should have. Because it can save you both time and money. My wife and I recently had our second baby, and like all expectant parents we had to go through the often difficult process of picking a name. Choosing a name is one of the first big decisions you make for your child and it can have a large impact on their future. Anyone familiar with the 1980s movie The Sure Thing remembers the diatribe of John Cusack’s character in which he expresses his disgust for the name “Elliot” who will grow up to be “a fat kid with glasses who eats paste.” He then goes on to explain that “You gotta give him a real name. Give him a name! Like Nick….Nick’s a real name! Nick’s your buddy. Nick’s the kinda guy you can trust.”Choosing a name for your company or product is as important as naming your child, so don’t take it lightly. First and foremost the name has to be unique. Growing up in classrooms filled with Davids, Johns and Jennifers, the one thing that set me apart was my last name. Speaking of my last name, that brings me to the next point. You have to be able to say it and spell it. I know first hand how having a name like Lubelczyk, which is both difficult to say and spell, can be a real pain. In this world of URLs, sear What I'm talking about are cloaked affiliate links. That is, small HTML files that hide your referral ID, username, member #, etc... and/or shorten the full URL. How Do They Work? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Usually the HTML file you use to cloak your affiliate URL forwards the user to the actual affiliated website just moments after clicking your cloaked link (or entering it into the web browser). The HTML file can also be frame-based, meaning that it will put the affiliate URL in an invisible frame so the user will only see the URL to your cloaked link and not the URL of the website you are directing the user to. What Is The Purpose? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many dishonest people will do anything they can to prevent affiliate marketers from getting their commission for their hard work. When people see a link that they recognize as an affiliate link they might cut your username off and buy directly from the website or even worse, they might replace your username with theirs and take your commission. Also, some people might be uncomfortable clicking on a link they recognize as an affiliate link. What link would you rather click on: http://www.madisondynamics.com/index.php?13523.artcl Tests have shown that up to 30% of all affiliate commissions are STOLEN by people who replace with their own link to "buy at a discount" and it's a serious problem. How Can You Prevent That? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If the service you are affiliated with uses cookies or other tracking devices using a cloaked link that refreshes to the affiliate URL should make sure that you get the commission/ referral you deserve. Because once the user clicks your cloaked link and is redirected to your affiliate URL a cookie with your referral ID is saved on the user's computer and the user should be less likely to succeed in stealing your commission. You’ll be able to be your own boss and appreciate the results of your hard work and craftsmanship. You will also be able to see the immediate impact your skill brings to a family or home that needs a problem fixed or new features added. However, starting a handyman business is not simply about building, fixing, and painting. There are several key factors that are necessary to help your handyman services business thrive and succeed.First and foremost, if you are seriously considering starting or running a handyman business, you must be skilled enough to perform good quality work at reasonable rates. Good website businesses constantly innovate, looking for new ways to make money. However setting up networks of mini-sites can be an expensive and time consuming process, so why not consider buying a single generic domain name and set up a virtual network of mini-sites using sub-folders?Setting Up Your Virtual NetworkDeveloping your virtual network is very easy. Once you have bought a generic domain name, you simply create a series of sub-folders for each of your affiliate programs. If one of your mini-sites is going to be used to sell insurance products, name the folder 'insurance'. Then create your insurance web page and save it in the insurance folder as 'index.htm' or 'index.html'. When you launch your insurance mini-sites, the address will be www.genericdomain/insurance.Choosing Your Generic Name< Also, some people might be uncomfortable clicking on a link they recognize as an affiliate link. Someone who tends to feel absolutely paralyzed at the thought of meeting new people? Do your hands get cold and clammy and your heart race 100 miles an hour at the mere thought of attending a networking event? How can you network successfully if you feel faint at the mere thought of having to walk up to a stranger and introduce yourself and state what business you’re in?When I started my business I was told that most new entrepreneurs have to cultivate their business, and in order to grow their client base they need to “network”. So what exactly is networking? How do you acquire the skills to do this effectively? Most people can learn to network better over time with practice and ease so for now let’s just look at a few of the basic “how-to’s” to get started on networking both yourself and your business. Consider this article your free “Virtual ‘bytes’" of wisdom.1. Smile! No one wants to be greeted by a person whose face gives off the impression that they've just lost their favorite pet! A warm, welcoming smile (not those fake or phony grimaces either!), will show the person you are greeting that you are indeed ple How Can You Prevent That? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If the service you are affiliated with uses cookies or other tracking devices using a cloaked link that refreshes to the affiliate URL should make sure that you get the commission/ referral you deserve. It was my Dick Van Dyke moment. For those of you who are relatively young or haven’t seen reruns of the “Dick Van Dyke Show,” there’s an episode in which Rob Petrie (played by Van Dyke) visits his son’s class to talk about his occupation as a TV comedy writer. Petrie’s son and the class are less than thrilled. How did it go for me?Fortunately, I didn’t follow the police officer. He passed around handcuffs and a flashlight. I passed around an ad board. Lame, I know. But what’s an advertising copywriter to do?Trying to tell kindergartners what I do in a few minutes reminded me of the importance of an “elevator statement.”An elevator statement is a concise, clear description of a company, organization, product, or service. The idea is that if someone in an elevator asked you what your company does, you can deliver a memorable answer in the time it takes to travel a couple of floors. While some people think it’s a pitch, I consider it a short statem <#html> content="0;URL=http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com"> <#body> wait<#/font><#/b><#/p> <#a href="http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com">click here<#/a>.<#/p> Just replace "http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com" with the referral URL your affiliate program gave you. However, if your affiliate service/program doesn't use cookies or if you're not sure, it would be safer for you to use framed cloaked links because then the user won't see your full affiliate URL and won't be able to cut off your referral ID. Here is a sample of the HTML code you can use to create a HTML file that puts your affiliate URL into an invisible frame: <#html> <#frameset rows="100%,*" frameborder="NO" border="0" framespacing="0"> <#frame src="http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com" name="mainFrame" border=0> <#frame border=0 scrolling="NO" noresize> (Note from author: In order for the HTML code to be seen correctly I've added "#" signs. If you intend on using this code just remove the "#" signs.) Just replace "http://www.YourAffiliateURL.com" with the referral URL your affiliate program gave you. You should also change the title to the actual name of your affiliate program or something else you think is appropriate. You should know though that people will always be trying to get passed the cloaked links so there is never a 100% way of ensuring your rightful commissions. But using cloaked links will definitely decrease the chance of you losing out on a commission. But How Can It Save You Time? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now that we have seen how cloaking your links can save you money how can it save you time? Well, I realized this recently when I decided to drop out of a certain affiliate program. I had been promoting this program on several places on the internet and the URL I was promoting was a cloaked link I had created on my domain. You can understand that I no longer wanted to promote a program I was not affiliated with any more. So I was looking forward to at least a half hour of searching the internet for places where I had put a link to this program and either change it or delete it. But that's when I realized I didn't have to hurry and delete all these links so I wouldn't be wasting money and credits on this program. All I had to do was log in to my website and edit the HTML file I had created to cloak the program's UR
