Who Am I? Who Is My Customer?
You'll find that the extremely important skill of tactical communicating will be that much easier if you if know who it is you're talking to. Luckily, there's a simple, yet powerful formula that Myers & Briggs developed, to pinpoint different personalities, and what I'm referring to is the DISC, or D.I.S.C. personality profile. In its simplest form, the DISC model breaks all of us into 4 different personality types. The word DISC is an Acronym for these different types of people. The 4 Personalities are easily remembered using letters. But remembering how they act and react in real life is easiest by using birds! The "D" from D.I.S.C. is the Driver. These people are direct, forceful, and results oriented people. These types of people may not be very good at customer service or repetitive tasks. If they were a bird, they would be an eagle. An Eagle is top of the food chain. They fly alone, and they make quick decisions. As an aggressive animal, the link back to people in business is that these people are most often the ones with the big office - the President or Manager! You've probably run across this personality type with people who want short answers, no fluff. And they let you know that you

    Forecasting Support Costs
Did you know that maintenance accounts for 50% to 80% of the overall product cost? Well, it does! And while most project managers are fairly good at sizing new product features, many are terrible at estimating the effort required to support a product once it becomes generally available. As a result, maintenance projects are inadequately staffed, companies can’t respond to customer requests in a timely manner, and products never reach payback. This article presents a methodology to help you guesstimate and therefore plan for the maintenance phase of generally available products. But first, let’s define a few terms that are important to the comprehension of this article.MaintenanceMaintenance is defined as the effort associated with fixing defects in a software system after general availability (GA). In other words, how many person-months will it take your organization to fix bugs discovered by your customers in the field?Maintenance can be subdivided in three sub-categories.Corrective maintenance involves fixing bugs that are discovered in the system after it becomes generally available. An example of a corrective maintenance activity is a developer fixing a Java method

Public Relations for Snow Removal Companies
Most companies are fairly easy to design public relations campaigns for and yet others become quite a challenge and require a little forward thinking and a bit of creativity. For instance what about a snow removal company, what kids of PR can they do? Well they can remove snow for free from Church Parking Lots, the Boys and Girls Club or a school, but some of these may actually be paying customers. Why not have the snow removal company join a mobile business watch program to curb crime? Why do I suggest this? Well simple really consider the following if you will;SNOW REMOVAL COMPANIES: They are driving around, and are out and about when everyone else in inside and toasty. They are out even when the criminals are not. But just incase the criminals come out in the cold weather your team is still working and helping police with extra eyes. The police have much more important emergencies to take care of when the weather gets that bad. In the summer time the snow removal companies have other jobs and will also be willing to display the sign. You see a snow removal company can join this program without any out of pocket expense and enjoy the free Public Relations while the community enjoys a crime free env

Management Malpractice Becomes A Vicious Cycle
The single greatest obstacle preventing organizations from becoming great–achieving superior results, exceeding customer expectations, attracting and retaining talent, developing leaders, and creating work environments where people at all levels can learn and grow and prosper is painfully simple: Management Malpractice—abuses of power, knowledge and relationships that bog down systems, frustrate people, thwart teamwork, divert focus, and compromise results. What exactly is management malpractice? Any organizational practice or activity that makes it difficult for people to perform their jobs, develop themselves, coordinate with others, find fulfillment, create value and get results for themselves and their organizations. It occurs when management principles or corporate values are preached but not practiced and always involves an abuse of power, knowledge or relationships. Management malpractices at all levels in an organization must be constantly exposed and routinely eliminated if the enterprise expects to achieve and sustain greatness.Great management principles that are considered by most people to be timelessly and universally true — principles such as sharing ideas at every level, fostering a healthy dissa

How to Set Up a Nevada Corporation
When incorporating in the state of Nevada, it’s important for you to understand that there is much more to the process than obtaining your personal tax identification number (also known as your EIN), and a list containing the names and addresses of the corporation directors. Articles of Incorporation need to be filed, licenses to obtain, and all fees must be paid.If you’re planning on doing this yourself, there are several steps that you will need to take note of, being sure to double check each step along the way, for the road can sometimes a bit overwhelming and tricky at times. With a bit of patience and careful planning, you’ll be on the right track to owning your Nevada Corporation!First things first, you need to choose an original, distinguishable name that is like none other in Nevada, including a person’s name, unless it has the word (either fully written out or abbreviation)- “Company”, “Limited”, “Corp”., or “Inc” immediately following. A name check should be completed prior to the entire process, for any issue regarding an original name could easily result in time-consuming setbacks.A professional corporation is one which offers services within one specific profession. This type of cor

Are Your Communication Skills Sabotaging Your Career? - Part 1
Stop Talking Yes, you heard right. Stop talking and start listening. Most people are very poor listeners and even worse, they constantly interrupt the other person. Since everyone enjoys talking, it takes a real effort to break these very bad habits. But it is the only way you will ever become a successful communicator. A good rule of thumb is to let the other person do 75% of the talking and you only do 25%.The Power of Listening The reason why listening is so powerful is because it builds trust. The more you listen to another person, the more he or she trusts you and believes in you. Listening also builds the other person's self-esteem. When you listen carefully to another person, you are in effect telling them that what they have to say is so important that you aren't going to say one single thing until they're done. People will seek you out because they will feel very comfortable in your presence. The more they seek you out, the further ahead you will get and you will be amazed at how quickly your career starts to move forward.Ask for Clarification If you aren't 100% certain what the person is saying, never guess or assume. Ask for clarity because if you d

Holly: Yeah, I think it is definitely having a major impact on how people are showing up on the results page. Being able to be tagged with the key words that are very important to your business is just a huge impact to how you show up on at the top of the results page. And it's a very difficult thing for you to manage as a business, or as an indivi
