How To Attract 'Skim Readers' In Your Newsletter
It's said over and over that people don't read much anymore because they're so overwhelmed with information. Can you honestly say that your business, non-profit or association’s key outside audiences behave in ways that help lead to your success on-the-job?

Or, have you pretty much ignored the reality that target audience behaviors can help or hinder you in achieving your department, division or subsidiary’s operating objectives?

Truth is, your unit’s public relations effort can never be truly fit until the primary focus of the PR people assigned to you is shifted from tactical concerns to a more comprehensive public relations action blueprint like this: people act on their own perception of the facts before them, which leads to predictable behaviors about which something can be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by reaching, persuading and moving- to-desired-action the very people whose behaviors affect the organization the most, the public relations mission is accomplished.

    Self Inflicted Pain
In all the years I have been involved with small business, it never ceases to amaze me how many problems facing owners have been self-inflicted, creating problems of their own doing. And indeed some of these problems have resulted in the failure of the enterprise. Below I have listed five of the most egregious problems that have caused much pain to the small business entrepreneur.1.. POOR PLANNINGFailure to plan is tantamount to planning to fail. Think of every decision that you make in your business. What products should I manufacture? W

Direct Mail Marketing for Window Washing Companies Considered
There is a tremendous amount of competition in the window washing business in most cities in the United States of America. Therefore it is often necessary to advertise your business to stay ahead of the competition and to get the very best jobs.Due to the price of fuel it makes sense to cluster your customers close together so that those people needing window cleaning will be near other people whose windows you have just cleaned. Additionally it makes sense to have people on a window cleaning route and the more customers on the same street the

    Learning Management Systems
All of us should be familiar with what’s happening with learning management systems (LMS). As organizations move away from a training mindset to a learning and performance culture, LMS will play a central role. The organization’s LMS should be more than a training documentation system. In a recent article by LMS-guru Elliott Masie, Elliott listed the following expectations for a fully implement LMS:* a “dashboard” for managers that highlights what their teams and individuals are learning* an invitation-to-learn system that personali

A Simplified Marketing Plan that Works!
When I started my first business in 1981, I researched business plans and marketing plans. I looked at all of the formats and read a lot about the purpose of creating a business plan. But I never got enthused enough to do it. When I launched my speaking business in 1997, I reconsidered a business plan and a marketing plan. Again, they looked too complex - like a lot of "overkill" for my one-person operation. But I soon found that I needed some type of plan that would remind me of where I was going and how I planned to get there. For the

What such a foundation gives you is the ability to help persuade those important external stakeholders to your way of thinking. Which can cause them to take actions that lead to your success as a manager.

Any idea how to make that happen?

First, tell your public relations team that you’re serious about nailing down what those outside audiences with the behaviors that affect your unit the most, really think about your organization. After you list the external stakeholders, prioritize them so we’re certain we’re working on one of your key target audiences.

Next, you and your PR team must interact with members of that audience by asking a number of questions aimed at finding out how you’re perceived. Look for inaccurate beliefs, troublesome misconceptions, potentially dangerous rumors, and any other negativities that might translate into target audience behaviors that could hurt you.
