    The Beara Peninsula, like the Ring of Kerry consists mainly of a coastline chiseled out by the Atlantic Ocean and lush green scenery due to the Gulf stream. Bantry Bay sits on one side and Kenmare Bay on the other. The Caha Mountains are the peninsulas dominant feature running like a spine from top to toe.

    Beara offers beautiful rugged mountains, lakes and its wonderful Atlantic coastline and while not as well known as the Ring of Kerry it is quite beautiful in its own right.

    A suggested route begins either in Killarney or Kenmare. Driving from Kenmare to Glengarriff you will join the coast with views of Bantry Bay, Garinish Island and Whiddy Island.

    Healy Pass (and Glanmore Lake) while not on the coast road should be seen, its just a matter of whether to pass through on your route south or on the way back up north. Alternatively drive to Glengariff then double back. Join the smaller road that the pass is on and take this to to the junction with R574. You will then rejoin the coast at Adrigole following the coast to Curryglass, Castletownbere and Cahermore. From Cahermore you can drive to the end of the Peninsula and see stunning views of Dursey Island.
