Positioning Your Business Globally For 21st Century Success
The U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) owns and operates the Global Positioning System (GPS), including 24 satellites, each orbiting the earth every 12 hours, as the graphic above illustrates.GPS, a navigational system, computes the position and velocity of things in a highly detailed, three dimensional way.The GPS costs $400 million annually, and it is essential for our national defense.Civilian GPS usage is increasing rapidly. For example, many newer cars and boats have GPS navigation systems to show where you are, where you want to go, and how to get there. There are hand held GPS devices, too, priced around 100 dollars.Let’s apply this GPS principle—positioning--t

Franchising – The Risk Free Solution To Starting Your Own Business?
Starting a business is tedious, expensive, and risky. It involves a lot of paperwork, market studies, coordinating with concerned agencies, scouting for the right place, and providing a significant amount of money for lease, initial inventory, furniture, and equipment. However, nowadays, those thinking of starting a business have the option to start from scratch or simply get a franchise from reputable establishments. It is a fact that many success stories in business started from scratch and the vision of their founders. Starting from scratch is good if the business has something innovative to offer and can sell its products at a competitive and affordable price. It also must find the right business site, near it
Today we want to talk about how you build your website and upload it to your host. (I’m sure you realize we can’t cover every detail of the process in these articles. My goal is just to get you started. To make it all work, you will need to get help from your local FE college or your techie as we have discussed in earlier articles. This is just an outline.)

    Building your website

To build a website you need some software called either a ‘webpage builder’ or an ‘HTML editor’ (these both mean the same thing). There are three types:

    • The simplest and hardest to use requires you to write everything directly in HTML. I would forget about this one for now (if you’re interested, you can actually build your entire webpage using just Windows Notepad. You’re not really interested, are you?).
    • The one in the middle allows you to enter text and format it – more or less the way you do when working in Microsoft Word. You can also add images, format background colours and borders. These are sometimes referred to as ‘WYSIWYG’ – pronounced ‘wizzywig’ -editors (what you see is what you get: a really, really old – 1992 or so – computing term).
    • The easiest to use and least flexible is something we might call a ‘template’ or series of templates. These are often included as part of a complete package you might buy to get you started in the business. With templates, you ‘fill in the blanks’ then make selections for font, background colour and the like. Software packages that include a number of templates are available at reasonable cost.

    Are All Drop Shippers Evil?
It has come to my attention recently that many people are trying the Ecommerce world, whether with websites or the hugely popular EBay. I offer this piece of advice to those just starting out, or thinking about starting out, choose your drop shippers wisely. It is my contention that many of these wholesale distributors have too many internal problems and that you will be disappointed in the total lack of “customer service”. Yes they will take your money; they will promise you the world, but when you need the products they charged you for, guess what?So are most drop shippers really evil? I believe that a few for sure fit into that category and some are almost pure evil. The thing that makes me believe that is h

How to Guarntee a Job After College
Over the years I have heard the frustrations from students about the lack of knowledge when it comes to choosing a job or career after college. They know they should have some type of idea but from what I have gathered most do not. Even though their parents are pushing them to get a job they have no idea what they are suppose to be doing. More importantly they have no idea what they want to do. It is one thing to have a job but it is another thing to have a job you love doing! Therefore, I have put together a plan for college students that should give every student, who sticks to the plan, a guide to help them determine what future career they may want to explore. At the crux of this plan are two words… exper

Creativity and Innovation Management in Conservative, Staid Organisations
Conservative and staid organisations generally have a harder time implementing creativity and innovation into their day-to-day work processes and people. Leaders may want to capture the benefits of creativity and innovation, yet there may be relevant and almost contradictory issues that they have to deal with, including:a) It may be that a conservative culture is desirable (may result in a greater fit with the client base, for example).b) Culture change is time consuming and needs constant monitoring and measurement.c) Large-scale changes may not be desired. However, it is possible for leaders to have the best of both worlds. That is, it is possible to combine a conservative culture with a cre

Desktop Branding With Printed Mouse Mats
Branding is an important part of the way your company is represented. Bringing together a name, logo, and other essential information to create a recognizable brand is no easy task, but it is a crucial aspect of getting your business noticed and remembered.Consider the potential for company branding on the average desktop—pens and coffee mugs will immediately spring to mind, of course. These two items are perhaps the most well-known and widely-used desktop promotional items. The printed mouse mat, while not as commonly used for promotional merchandising, is an increasingly popular desktop promotional item. Computers are now an essential item for most businesses and home offices, so it makes perfect sense to utili

I suggest you think about a WYSIWYG editor. They range in price from about ?750 for a top-shelf package to about ?20 for something really basic. As a general rule, the more you pay, the more flexibility you have. The downside of this is that sometimes the more powerful, more flexible software is somewhat more difficult to use.

For a simple webpage, the ?20 package will probably do the job. Although you have less flexibility with the lower cost package, it is also easier to learn to use. You can always buy a more powerful package later. To make the best choice for your needs, ask your techie. If you have Microsoft FrontPage on your PC this will do fine to start.

Next you need to choose a domain name.

In a perfect world, since you are in the business of direct marketing, you would choose a domain name like www.marketing.com or www.directmarketer.co.uk because these are the search terms people looking for you and your products might enter in search engines. Unfortunately, all these short, tidy domain names were claimed long ago.

Plan B: Go to the website www.whois.co.uk. There you will be able to enter your choice and see if it is available. You want to try to choose a domain name that reflects what you are selling or your speciality. Look for something like www.direct-marketing.co.uk or if, say, your expertise is in copywriting, go for something like www.greatcopywriting.com or www
