    Empowered Employees Are Up To You And Your Management Style
    During my career, I have worked with a variety of organizations that display any number of management styles. These varying styles contribute greatly to the corporate culture as well as to the ultimate productivity of individuals and departments.It is clear to me that empowering employees, departments and any group of employees improves performance and increases organizational effectiveness. It can also create a great deal of stress and havoc if management does not totally or consistently buy into this philosophy or management approach. What is empowerment? It is not a fad, although it seems to have gained in popularity the past several years. Empowerment can be defined with a variety of management approaches. Rather than give you a narrative, I thought I would share a list. I find that lists help people better identify strengths as well as weaknesses more easily.Empowered organizations:1. Give authority with responsibility.2. Communicate corporate direction clearly to all employees.3. Have clear and flexible goals and focuses.4. Focus, not on methods or activities, but results.5. Goalsetting is a combination of top-down and bottom-up.6. Listen to employees.7. Create a safe environment where employees can feed up bad news without the fear of criticism, termination or perception of being a poor team player.<

    Cutting Costs for Your Business
    For a business to be profitable, revenue must exceed expenses. To increase the amount of revenue, many businesses look for ways to reduce expenses. Start by analyzing your current expenses. Categorize them into two distinct groups, one for expenses you have to have, and the other for expenses you can possibly lower or eliminate from your business budget.Travel and entertainmentThe areas most businesses can drastically cut down on are travel and entertainment expenses. You can still have a Christmas party, but scale it down to the staff only rather than inviting spouses. Change the location to save on cost. If your company is in jeopardy of survival your employees will understand. Discuss the reasons why such changes are taking place in advance.Necessary expensesTake a look at expenditures including insurance and cleaning. Have your insurance and other variable expenses re-evaluated. You may be eligible for additional discounts. Comparison shop with other companies as well to ensure the best rates possible for the coverage you need. If you are spending large amounts of money to have the office cleaned, consider cutting the services back one or two days per week. This will result in a large savings over time.High phone and utility bills are often an area most businesses can reduce costs in. Make sure lights and bus
    Over the course of your business life you'll come in contact with a number of other business people. They could be lawyers, business services, suppliers, customers, etc. These people are important to your business in more ways than one. If you hired them or they bought your product or service, you can also gain their business knowledge, experience, ideas, and advice. How do you do this? Stay Connected! Network! Networking is when two or more different businesses stay in contact on a regular basis to build and improve each others business.

    Consider all the benefits you'll gain from talking to other business people:

    Knowledge or information that you didn't have before Advice on how to solve a current business problem Leads to a new business project or opportunity Joint ventures and cross promotion deals Learn important skills that you didn't have before Constructive criticism that improved your business Brainstorming that sparks a profitable business idea Encouraging and motivational statements

    There are many ways to meet business people. Join business clubs and associations. Participate in on-line business-related forums, e-mail discussion groups, and chat rooms. Go to business expos and trade shows. Use your creativity to come up with even more ideas.

    If you have the time, start your own networking group. You could hold meetings at a local seminar room, at a park , or at your own business building. If you want to hold meetings on-line use a private chat room. Publish a print or e-mail newsletter to keep members informed of meeting time and dates.

    Keep all your business associates' contact information all in one place. Have it organized by business type or profession for easy finding. So when you need some advice on a new marketing campaign you can call that marketing expert you met at that trade show in Ohio a couple of weeks ago.

    Networking is a surefire way to build a successful business. I have used it countless times and will continue too. I have also met a lot of business people who are now some of my closest friends.

      Slogans: Creating and Using Them In Life, Career and Business
      Information is coming at us from all directions nowadays. This pace requires us to demand that we receive it fast and predigested in order to inch ahead of the game. This also requires a new filing system method for storing the bites and bytes. In this article, we will go into greater details on: * Why slogans are important in today’s society fast-pace information systems. * What is a slogan? * Learn the six major types of slogans. * The many uses for slogans. * Seven ways to make slogans memorable. First, lets create a clear definition for a slogan. A slogan is a noun, usually repeated and persuasive that creates a memorable catch phrase, motto, or jingle, that expresses a particular aim or concept. A concept that you want to stick in your audience’s mind like glue to paper. Second, what makes a slogan memorable? Brevity is first in line -- normally 10 words or less. Rhythm is the only exception to brevity. Rhythm is easier to create if there is an association to the receiver’s past -- like a particular jingle on TV during their teen years for those now in their 50s. I still hold one from a TV ad long ago, "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should." And I never smoked. An additional method is through repetition or language vividness. More on this later.
