Public Speaking Do's & Don'ts - How to Use Notes When Speaking In Public
Public speaking experts can become public speaking snobs when it comes to the question of using notes when speaking. The super snobs will tell you to never use them, that they are sign of weakness and lack of skill, that they disconnect you from your audience, that they make you boring and dull. But this is not necessarily true. You can use notes in such a way that allow you greater skill, confidence and effectiveness. Notes can free you up to take risks, be conversational, and have a little more spontaneous fun because you know you can always refer to your notes if you need to get back on track. If you use notes, use them well.5 DON'TS:— Don't read your notes! There is nothing more boring than someone reading their speech. Don't stick your face in your notes and read them. You should know your speech well enough that you only need to glance at your notes once in a while to prompt you to the next point, story or interaction.— Don't fiddle with your note cards or paper.Don't hold your notes in your hands, fiddle with them or fling them about like a feather boa. Not only is this distracting, but it tends to distance you from your audience. You don't want any object between you and your aud

Over several weeks, I decided to jot down some notes about some accomplishments in my life, and I thought it would help my in dealing with death. How? I didn't know!

In the year 2006, and at the age of 61, I have entered the fourth quarter of my life, and quickly approaching the two-minute warning. During this time, I began to think about death...my death. But why? All of us are going to "kick the bucket," sooner or later, and we're all going to have to deal with death! So, how can I prepare for death? What have I done with my life? Have I thrown my life away?

Over the last decade or so, I have suffered from six job lay-offs (16 yrs. service), and like so many millions of American's who have lost jobs, I have taken my lumps and bumps along the way! After I was evicted from my apartment for not paying the rent, and being a veteran, I went to live and work at the VA Medical Center to try to get back on my feet. It was at this time, that many things crossed my mind, including if I was going to deal with the issue of death. This is a topic most people don't want to talk about...I don't, necessarily, want to talk about it either!

During the next several weeks, I spent part of my time reflecting on my life...what I had accomplished and so forth. How the issue of death came into my mind, I'll never know, but whether death for me comes this afternoon, or twenty years from now, I was going to have to deal with it. One thing I did not want if and when I am on my death bed, is "woulda; coulda; shoulda; in my life, etc. If there's any house-cleaning to do...I have to do it now! I want little or no regrets when I pass on. What was happening to me, is similar to the ads we hear on radio and television about pre-planning a funeral, etc.

Over several weeks, I decided to jot down some notes about some accomplishments in my life, and I thought it would help my in dealing with death. How? I didn't know!

    Cephalosporin Antibiotics
Cephalosporins are the most frequently prescribed class of antibiotics. Cephalosporins are bactericidal agents, which means that they kill bacteria. They have the same mode of action as as penicillins. All bacterial cells have a cell wall that protects them. Cephalosporins disrupt the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls, which causes the walls to break down and eventually the bacteria die.Cephalosporin compounds were first isolated from cultures of Cephalosporium acremonium from a sewer in Sardinia in 1948 by Italian scientist Giuseppe Brotzu. The first agent cephalothin (cefalotin) was launched by Eli Lilly in 1964.Cephalosporins are used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, strep throat, tonsillitis, bronchitis), skin infections and urinary tract infections. They are sometimes given with other antibiotics. Cephalosporins are also commonly used for surgical prophylaxis - prevention of bacterial infection before, during, and after surgery.Classification of CephalosporinsCephalosporins are grouped into "generations" based on their spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The first cephalosporins were designated

    Why Residual Income
Why it’s better to have residual income and not solely depend on paycheck income? Residual income by definition is income earned by an individual that are generally coming from his assets at hand. It allows a person not to worry anymore spending 8 hours a day in the office working as his personal assets are now earning money for him.The current practice for people in earning a living is by getting a job and work either on an hour or annual basis. They have salaries or paychecks that they receive usually on a monthly basis and this allows them to buy the things they want, travel to places they want to travel or simply buy anything that their paychecks allows them to buy but the happy story ends where the money has been spent already and people have to continuously report back for work and continue on with their current jobs again and again. Their paychecks do arrive again and again but so does the effort for them to continue working for that hard-earned money.People can aspire for higher salaries by getting promoted in their current companies or they can opt to aspire for higher paying salaries with other companies. They can get a higher education, maybe an MBA degree and be assigned to higher management positions like

Are State Bar Associations Allowing Felons To Practice Law?
Does favoritism exist in our State Bar Associations? Does favoritism allow felons who couldn’t attain many regular jobs because of a felony conviction to continue to practice law? That’s the one of the topics that is explored on Show 75 of the highly acclaimed “You Are The Guest” Podcast. Sam and Deidre are law partners from Alabama and both share their personal and professional opinions on politics, lawyers, attorney ethics, and some potential legal issues surrounding the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Host Bill Grady asks Sam and Deidre their opinion concerning Howard K. Stern's ethical behavior as a practicing attorney and tosses out various scenarios to find out if they think there could be grounds for a civil suit if someone wanted to pursue them.Sam shares a couple of stories about how the State Bar Associations can be selective in who they allow to practice law and whom they decide to go after. During Show 75 of “You Are The Guest”, Sam tells about a judge who was convicted of trading sex for favorable divorce rulings. The judge was kicked off the bench but still practices as a lawyer. As Sam explains the during the show, “What he did, he did as a judge and not as a lawyer.”Sam also talks about another

    * Good person: I've always been a good person. I have never hurt anyone and I have never been in jail for any reason.

    * My integrity is not negotiable: I have never cheated and lied my way through life. You cannot take money and material things with you, but one thing is certain. I WILL take my integrity with me to the grave!

    * Raising kids: For nineteen years, I helped to raise two boys, and both went on to graduate from high school, and then went on the graduate from college. Kevin in criminology and Jason in the medical field. I am proud of both of them.

    * Substance abuse: I lived through the drug culture of the 1960's and 70's, and I had to decide if I wanted to be a part of it or not. I decided NOT to be a part of it. Some of my friends in the military who went into the drug culture, we had to part our ways. As of the year 2007, I have never taken illegal drugs of any kind...LSD; uppers; downers; marijuana...NOTHING! This is one of my greatest accomplishments.

    * Quit smoking: I quit smoking in 1970 and I've not touched a cigarette since. It's one of the best things I've done for myself and those around me. To quit...took "mental toughness," of discipline; sacrifice; determination; fighting off temptation and peer-pressure, etc. All these things helped in the future to lose weight; lower my blood pressure, etc.

    * U.S.A.F. I served my country in the United States Air Force for four years, in a difficult time for this country, during the Viet Nam era. I have a honorable discharge, and I have always been proud to be a veteran. I have had educational benefits and free medical for the rest of my life, etc.
