Hurricanes Wilma, Katrina And Rita Force Businesses To Rethink Computer
With hurricane Wilma bearing down and the effects of hurricane Katrina, now being cited as the single most expensive natural disaster in the history of the United States with a direct cost estimated at a $100 billion, still fresh in our minds, businesses are being forced to rethink their computer system and data recovery policies.Of the catastrophic damage caused by hurricane Katrina, some estimate the insured damage to be only about $12.5 billion. Over a million non-agricultural jobs have been jeopardized by Katrina’s devastation with more than half of these in New Orleans itself. With the business infrastructure of the New Orleans area so gravely damaged and recovering so slowly, businesses are beginning to rethink their ability to survive a natural disaster of Katrina’s, Rita’s and now Wilma’s magnitude or the grim possibility of a terrorist attack. Was the chaos that ensued after hurricane Katrina due to the absence of a sound recovery disaster plan?“The problem with the Katrina disaster was not necessarily the lack of a plan. In fact, the US government, the State government and the local government all had very good plans. The problem was that they were not implemented,” says David Russo, President of Independent Network Consultants of Crofton, Maryland, (www.INCons.com), an IT services company that assists businesses in creating their own disaster recovery plans.“That is why, in formulating a disaster plan, we try to make sure that all the senior management are involved and are on board to implement the plan if the disaster actually strikes. This understanding has to trickle down to all the appropriate levels of the business.”“A disaster plan, in part, is a laundry list of resources for use in a disaster. For instance, a disaster plan for one of my clients calls for two separate T1 lines. These telephone lines actually have two separate physical routes so that, in the case of a disaster, one line will always be working if the other is compromised.”“So let’s say that certain lines of this phone system may be down while others are still working. But, if a worker wasn’t aware of that, after picking up a phone or two, he might assume that the entire system was down- unless he knew!”“Even if the worker knew the phones were working, he must also know what the priorities are and, if contacting someone is necessary, he must know whom to call. When he calls, he must ask for what he needs and he must count on the recipient to also know what can and must be delivered. Time is short in a disaster.”“In the case of the hurricane Katrina disaster, some of the conf
Perhaps more than any other movie in the last thirty years, none has been assimilated into the lexicon of mainstream popular culture as much as The Godfather (1972) and its epic sequel – The Godfather: Part II (1974).

The revered place that The Godfather occupies in the American psyche is a testament not only to the box-office revenues (1) it has earned or the numerous awards (2) it has won; rather, what distinguishes The Godfather from other popular movies is the extent to which its dialogue is quoted chapter and verse. Its wit and wisdom have become, for lack of a better term, a guidepost in our daily lives: “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse” became the de facto mantra for advertisers, late-night comedians, and wiseguy wannabes; “Leave the gun...take the cannoli” epitomized the moral ambiguities and necessities of everyday life; and Luca Brasi (Don Vito Corleone’s chief enforcer) is often invoked on MSNBC’s Hardball when host Chris Matthews takes issue with some heavy-handed tactics in the political arena.

Background and Theme of The Godfather.

The screenplays for each of The Godfather films were co-written by Francis Coppola, the film’s director, and Mario Puzo, the author of the best-selling novel. In their unique collaboration, they refashioned a story about gangsters and elevated it to the level of myth – a cinematic tour de force which has long been praised for its poignant and tragic portrait of the Corleone “crime” family and its insight into a brutally corrupt economic system that sows the seeds of the family’s inevitable downfall.

As Coppola himself has remarked, the parallel lives of Vito and Michael are a thinly disguised metaphor for America and American capitalism. Underlying this metaphor, however, is a contradiction, namely, that the ideals of opportunity and social mobility are undermined by the destructive realities of the capitalist system, i.e., the unbridled desire for profit and power. The family empire that Vito builds is one that Michael cannot preserve. It is fragile and impermanent -- its loyalties based on the vagaries of business, not on the close-knit bonds of family and community. Michael’s yearning for acceptance and legitimacy, although sympathetically portrayed, remains largely unattainable.

Learn The True Facts About How Ebay Auctions Work And Not Be Misled By The Low Auction Prices
Keep in mind when you are looking at the auction prices on Ebay and do not be led to believe that the low prices you see in the auction are what these products are being sold for. What Ebay does not tell you is that the auction price you see is the highest bid price, not the actual selling price. This means that if the sellers "Reserve Price" is not reached at the end of the auction then the sale will not go through. A reserve price is the lowest price that the ebay auction seller is willing to accept for the item that place on auction. If the highest bid is lower then that item is not sold, buy Ebay still charges you for the item that was placed on auction. The true fact is that more than 50% of the Ebay auctions never sell a product because the buyer has a set reserve price that must be reached by a bidder. Ebay never reveals the seller's reserve price so you never know exactly what the buyer really wants for the item unless you see a BUY IT Now button there. The only way to know if a certain item on auction will be sold for the price you see on the auction is to look at the bid information at the top next to the item picture; if you see the words 'No Reserve' then the seller will let this item go for whatever the top bid price will be at the end of that auction. If you do not see the words 'No Reserve' in that area then there is a reserve price for that item in auction and if the highest bid does not match that reserve price then the that item will not be sold. Those who place items for auction with a "no reserve" price are those who sell stuff from their home or just want to get rid of something at any price that they can.Look at the reasoning of this, if you can buy 100 Ipod Nanos for $130 each on Ebay then why bother to go to a wholesaler? Everyone would just buy wholesale on Ebay. The true fact is the manufacturers control the prices of the electronics so you will not find a legit electronics wholesaler that can offer dirt cheap prices on electronics. Almost all of the wholesalers prices will be about the same. The same applies with the AF1 shoes. In order to be able to sell authentic AF1 shoes for $25 a pair you would have to buy at least 5 container loads of them at one time at a tremendous cost.Do not believe that the Ebay listed prices are what the products are actually selling for because if the product being sold is new then there will be a reserve price set forth by the seller. If the item is used then there may not be a reserve price because the seller just wants to sell it for whatever they can get. This is the reason that on our websites I do not place any emphasis on selling

    Facility Management Jobs
The British Institute of Facility Management’s (BIFM) definition for facility management is 'the integration of multi-disciplinary activities within the built environment and the management of their impact upon people and the workplace'. The facility management sector, which has become a billion-dollar industry, needs skillful people. There is a great need for personnel in the in-house departments, and specialist contractors for facilities like canteens. From receptionists to security staff, a business relies on a whole network of essential support services. Since facility management is multi-disciplinary, the jobs vary from project manager to cleaners. The training in facility management is also helpful for becoming a team leader, as a leader with such training knows what facilities he has to provide to his team to motivate them. The facility management jobs also include coordinative and administrative jobs. The coordinative jobs include posts like facility coordinator, project coordinator, dispatch coordinator, etc.The responsibilities of a facilities manager range from maintenance and administration to building strategy for space management and communications infrastructure. Maintaining uniformity and consistency in the workplace is also important. It is the role of facility management to ensure the satisfaction of the staff in an organization, and to motivate them to do their work. The facilities manager must be skillful and knowledgeable. With the heavy workload it is necessary for facilities professionals to complete one task as quickly as possible to begin another. Managing the facility becomes more efficient with proper documentation. Hence, a facility manager must good at documentation work.Since there is high demand for facility professionals and the supply is currently low, the remuneration is high in this sector.

    What Makes Marketing Work?
Many small businesses have a natural aversion to marketing. That’s understandable because marketing can be intimidating if you don’t know what makes marketing work.In my marketing blueprint there are eight steps to successfully generating productive, response driven marketing results.1. MINDSETMarketing is a mindset. A mindset based on your own integrity and belief in your service. When someone asks you what you do for a living, instead of telling them your profession, begin to think in terms of being a “problem solver.” Say something like, “I help people who enjoy quality keep themselves looking terrific.” Or incorporate this problem solving mentality into your advertising messages.Don’t use jargon or technical terms. Just speak in terms of solving your target market’s problems. Stress benefits, not features and show your customers you value results, not hype.2. POSITIONING YOURSELF IN THE MARKETPLACEYou must finally decide, do you offer full service or are you a discounter. Either way your business, inside and out must reflect this decision. Your personnel, advertising and quality must reflect this positioning statement. Here’s a 5 point checklist to help you decide if you’re reaching the right market. Ask yourself.1. Do they have the money? 2. Will they’ll pay a premium for better service and quality if necessary? 3. Where is the competition weak in my trading area? 4. Which influential people or companies in my community can I service that will give me credibility and great references? 5. How can I make sure my prospects know they need what we offer?3. BUILDING PERCEPTIONSIf you asked your best, most trusted customer, and I encourage you to do this. “What is it that makes your company so good?” “What do you value about the way your company gets the job done?” “What do you value about the way your company treats you?”What makes marketing work is perception. There is very little difference in most products and services. Companies claim they offer great service and deliver on their promises. To do marketing right you have to consistently build a perception in the mind of the consumer about what makes you different. Is it that you’re more trustworthy than your competition? More knowledgeable about solving difficult problem situations? Does your plant have more modern resources or respond quicker to customer’s requests? What innovative marketing ideas have you implemented recently? Do you have the capacity to service larger corporate clients or the small business market?4. WRITING A WINNING

Applying the Marketing Wisdom of The Godfather.

Although many articles have already made the obvious link between the wisdom of The Godfather and its applications to the wider business world, no one, to my knowledge, has specifically applied The Godfather’s system of beliefs and code of conduct to the world of marketing, branding, and competitive positioning.

There are many lessons to be learned: The marketplace in which companies go head to head is no less contentious, fierce, or profit-driven. The Barzinis, Tattaglias, and Sollozzos of the so-called legitimate business world are trying to expand their territory (read market share and mindshare); and the Hyman Roths and Johnny Olas, once your business allies, are now formidable competitors threatening to weaken your tenuous market position. They’re all playing to win, and want nothing more than to knock you off the shelf, as it were.

Instead of a battle of bullets, it’s a war of words and a jockeying of positions. It’s a world in which perception is power. Since sitting on the sidelines is not a viable option, you’ll either prevail (e.g., enjoy champagne cocktails in the mountains) or fail (e.g., find Khartoum’s head in your bed). There’s an old Sicil-icon Valley expression: you can either swim with the sharks or sleep with the fishes, but you can’t do both.

The distilled wisdom of The Godfather is a page taken right out of the marketer’s playbook. Successful marketing campaigns rely on persuasive attempts to achieve market dominance, cultivate customer loyalty, and convince prospects and customers to take immediate action. To be successful, you must articulate a clear vision, embrace a set of core values, and redefine the competition to your best advantage (without the accompanying murder and mayhem, of course). To remain successful, you must leverage your credibility, influence, and market intelligence in ways that make your competitors shudder in their shiny black shoes. Well, at least that’s the general idea.

First off, let’s make some key distinctions between the world of The Godfather and
