That is to say that I do not have a problem with the unit of trade we call "a dollar" as it allows me who has a cow to buy a hammer without cutting off a piece of my cow to buy it.

Intrinsic valuations in free market are not evil in my opinion. I think I would need better clarification on your definition of a "Price System" if you are calling that the settling of valuations based on intrinsic desire, then perhaps the real issue is with the "human desire" or thought process for "instant gratification" instead of deeper thinking and understanding of the long-term paper chase and time/value of interest and money, as well as the flow of trade and money.
