You see my family was involved in a destroying life cycle. My brother became an alcoholic and so is his son. I broke the negative cycle that was destroying my family and started a new healthy one. Today I don’t drink alcohol and neither does my husband. None of my children drink and my grandchildren are being taught not to drink. You can start a good cycle in your family.

I helped my mother have a better life too. She is 85 years old and she is close to Heavenly Father and we are closer.

My dear sister followed my example and has taught her wonderful children. They are all good people, doing good things.

My own children are good responsible and loving people.

I want you to know that I am sorry if someone has hurt you. I know life is hard and unfair and there are people who are unkind and unthinking. Often others are lead by their own problems and their own addictions. Some people even allow evil to control them. If you have troubled people in your life this is no reason for you to destroy your own life. You must learn from their mistakes.

Whatever abuse, unkindness or neglect has been done to you, you must endure it and never pass on. You have the power to choose what you will do with what has happened to you. You can either be filled with anger or hatred and want to pay back OR you can decide that you will not allow anything or anyone to destroy your life. You must choose to have the best life possible, in spite of anyone or anything else.

If you are in Juvenile Hall because you are the one who made the mistakes, you still have time to create a better life for yourself. You now have time to look at your mistakes and make better choices. You can make positive goals for your education and your future.

Whatever has happened so far, I want to give you hope. I want you to believe and understand that you have the power, all by yourself, to have a good life, in spite of what has happened to you or what your background is. With God’s help you can do it! It doesn’t matter what has been done to you; it’s what you do with your life. It isn’t what happens to you on the outside that makes you good or bad, it’s what you do, with what’s been done to you. It’s what comes out of you, which makes the difference. If you want to be happy, let good things come out of you.

I believe you are a child of God. That He blessed you with gifts and talents, abilities, amazing potential and a wonderful life’s mission. He has a plan for you. There are amazing things you can do with your life.

I know it’s easy to get discouraged when life is unfair but you must get excited about the many possibilities of your life. You do have the power to overcome all things, and to have a happy and successful life.

How can you do this and how have I done it?

I grew up in a very troubled family, filled with abuse from my alcoholic Father. My Mother was filled with terrible hatred toward my Dad. We kids were caught up in the war between them. They gave us no love, guidance or direction. We had no comfort or peace, just emotional abuse. As I got older I needed friends so I started doing what other kids were doing, drinking alcohol. I was headed down the same destructive path as my Dad until I had a wake-up call. My Dad died a wasted life, at the age of 57. He was following my Grandfather’s example who also died an alcoholic, at age 57.

Bad things happen for a reason and my Dad’s death forced me to look at where I was headed. I decided I needed to change my life or I would end up like my Dad. I made a choice and commitment to stop drinking alcohol and start living a responsible life. It was the best decision I ever made because my life has turned out so well. It did not end up like my Dad’s. My Dad’s life was so sad. He never found out who he could have become or what good he could have done with his life. He let alcohol take that away from.

I’m so grateful that I took a different path. I came to realize that I had the power to choose my own life. The choices which I made when, I was young, are the consequences of the good life I enjoy today.

Maybe some of you girls have lives like mine. If so please remember this truth! “It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past. It matters what you do with your life”.

When I asked for his help in changing my life He helped me. I now know I can talk to Him at any time, in any place. He is always here for me and will bless me for doing right. It Wasn’t God’s Fault I also had to learn that the bad things, which happened in my life, did not come from God but from the people I lived with, who chose not to follow God. I also had to learn that life is for experience. The good and bad experiences teach us. They lead us toward our potential and our life mission. Many of the bad things, which happened to me, helped me learn and grow and to help others. The truths I have learned can help you too.

I am so grateful for the wonderful happy and good life I enjoy today. It is only because I was smart enough to make some changes when I was young.

How To Live A Happy Life. I found the secret and you can live it too. I try to obey the 10 commandments, and all of God’s teachings. I don’t use drugs or alcohol or smoke cigarettes. I try to be honest and to love others and dedicate my life to helping others. When I make mistakes I ask God’s forgiveness and try not to make the same mistakes again.

Make Your Time At Juvenile Worthwhile. Girls I want you to know that you can have a happy and successful life too. If you will take the time you have here in Juvenile to think and pray about what you should do. If you will make some new goals and make a commitment to give up the things which have damaged you. If you will give your life to God and let him lead you. I guarantee that you too will have a life of happiness and goodness and that you will be the instrument in helping others have happy lives too. Your own happiness will increase as you see others have better lives because of your example.

Love Yourself One of the important things I learned about life is that I needed to learn to love myself. You too must learn to love yourself! Loving yourself makes you feel good about you. If no one told you they loved you, remember that GOD LOVES YOU! You are his child. If you learn to love yourself and to love others you will find that other people will love you back. You can create a happy family for yourself, with your love.

Forgive Others I also learned I must forgive those who hurt me. Learning to forgive gives me freedom. You must learn to forgive too! Put people who have hurt you in God’s hands. Let him care about them. Separate yourself emotionally from them, so they can’t hurt you and ask God to show you how to forgive them and even to have compassion for them. They have problems so why should you allow them to destroy your life?

Girls I pray that you will seriously consider these truths I have shared with you!

Remember Changes Aren’t Easy But Worth It! I warn you that changes aren’t easy. Even when you try to do what is right it will not guarantee that bad things won’t happen to you. There will always be bad and evil in life but I do guarantee you that you can learn happiness and that you will have the power to overcome the bad. You will learn and grow from all the experiences you overcome.

If you will make the same changes I made in my life, you will discover your life’s purpose and potential. You will experience growth in your life and will find happiness.
