I've had my own business with varying degrees of success for the better part of 15 years now and have to ask myself the question that's posed with the title of this article from time to time. Sometimes I wonder why I was born with the idea in my head that having a job and working for someone else is such a bad idea? I mean most people have jobs and are perfectly content. But not me, I've always insisted that having a job and working for someone else is not the way to go.

I suppose this is what's called the entrepreneurial spirit, and I was without a doubt, born with it. I have to wonder sometimes if it was for the best or it's going to be my demise? I suppose this is a normal feeling though, and I truly believe that in the long run it will be for the best. But there is definitely truth to what Ted Turner said on this subject; "My son is now an "entrepreneur." That's what you're called when you don't have a job."

The dream still burns within me, no matter how hard I try to put it out. I tried to put it out for ten years by drinking a lot of alcohol…that didn't work. The Adventures of Wolley Segap -- Home Invasion

o put it out for ten years by drinking a lot of alcohol…that didn't work. I don't drink any longer and the fire still burns, only now I realize how much time I wasted. I have to believe that it has all happened for a reason. Actually, I've come to the conclusion that's exactly why it has all happened. Whether it be having success and then losing it, or drinking heavily and stopping, it all happened for a reason.

The bottom line is that the entrepreneurial fire is still burning, while another part of me thinks it would sure be simpler to just get a freakin' job and be done with it. This is the dilemma that we yet to be highly successful entrepreneurs face I suppose. Although it turns out that it isn't a dilemma at all because the fire can't be put out by anything we may try. I truly believe that the only way my entrepreneurial fire is going out is by death, so I've just learned to roll with it, and always remember what Henry David Thoreau said, " All endeavor calls for the ability to tramp the last mile, shape the last plan, endure the last hours toil. The fight to the finish spirit is the one... characteristic we must posses if we are to face the future as finishers."
