We all love Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and other Disney characters but buyers should be alert and do not buy any of it if they think it is illegal. Legitimate sellers will state in their listings the name of the artist of which the picture is coming from. Of course there are many images in the public domain and anyone may use them for commercial or personal use. These images are usually fine art pictures from famous painters that copyright has expired. If anyone would like to check expired copyrights, Wikepidia, a free content encyclopedia on the internet, is good place to start.

* Pixar characters
* Harry Potter

Noone can change or amend a copyrighted picture without the artist's permission.
It is a matter of time before these sellers will be caught and reported to ebay. Ebay has a rule about copyright infringement and will suspend their accounts.
Something else you should be aware of: legally, you can not make a copy of a cross stitch chart and distribute to friends without the permission of the copyright owner. However you can make a copy only for your own use.
