Workplace Violence - 8 Tips For Spotting Early Warning Signs
One of the greatest threats facing both employees and the companies they work for, is workplace violence. It has become the leading cause of death for women and the second leading for men, following closely behind motor vehicle accidents. In fact, the best estimates now being reported show that 1-in-4 employees will be the victim of workplace violence this year alone. While the media is quick to highlight the most deadly attacks that occur, the fact is that most employees will be lucky enough to only suffer from simple assaults. However, this is not to downplay the almost 400,000 aggravated assaults, 51,000 rapes and sexual assaults, 84,000 robberies, and nearly 1,000 homicides reported each year. I simply want to acknowledge that the average employee wi

Brand Aid: How to Sell Yourself
When David was a small boy his father asked him, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” David thought about it for a minute and answered, “I don’t know what I want to be, but I know that I DON’T want to be a salesman.” “That’s too bad,” his father responded. “Because, whatever you WANT to be, you HAVE to be a salesman.”It is so true. You are always selling. You sell your products, your services, your ideas and most importantly, you sell yourself. No matter what you do for a living, you are a salesperson. So what will help you succeed in this world of “sales”? Let’s take a look at how branding can help you sell yourself more successfully. What is a brand? It is simply the emotional reaction and attachment that a customer has to their total ex
First up let me state categorically that home based child care is meaningful and valuable work, mostly undertaken by people with a commitment to meeting the needs of children. Many make a lifelong commitment to providing this service and do not intend to change career directions. However, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared…

Internationally, there is a huge “home-based” child care industry, with features that make it quite unique in the world of work. For example, home based care is:

    · essential in order to keep the wheels of industry turning

    · grossly undervalued by the community in general (including many of the users of this service!)

    · often greatly undervalued by those providing the service (e.g. “I just look after kids during the day”)

    · typically a self-employed and very underpaid venture

    · subject to varying degrees of regulation, if regulated at all

    Value what you do

Having worked extensively in the area of children’s services I have come to realise that even staff working in commercial or government-funded child care facilities can underestimate the importance of their contribution to the wellbeing of families and the needs of industry. How much harder then, to maintain a realistic perspective when your work takes place in your own home, unseen and unheralded by society at large! Reframe negative or self-deprecating perceptions about being the provider of child care - recognise that you have undertaken a professional responsibility.

For many carers there comes a point in time where they want to take a different direction in their work lives. However, they may feel that they have few skills to offer a prospective employer after years of working “out of sight: out of mind”. Consequently, they limit their own opportunities either by not making the attempt to establish a new direction, or by underselling themselves to prospective employers.

Career Change - What Is The Fastest Growing Job Market?
If you are just starting out in the labour market or planning to change career, you will want to know which jobs are experiencing the most growth.Although it is by no means the only factor to take into account, the careers tipped to grow most in the next 10-20 years are worth thinking about when it comes to making your decision. On the other hand, spending your entire working life in a job you hate is probably not what you had in mind, even if there is more security and more money to be had. This is why it is essential to look at the bigger picture. If you are aware of the trends and use a little creative thinking, you can find a job which benefits from economic growth but also fits in with your interests and preferences. Let’s illustrate this with an examp

Employee Retention is Important for Business Success
Employee retention matters to all companies, for many different reasons. A high turnover of employees not only results in a loss of skills, a waste of training time already spent but also indicates something wrong within a company that might need addressing.Turnover levels vary between different industries, and labor turnover in occupations such as call centers and the retail industries might not be so critical to a company as in the scientific, engineering and manufacturing industries. Higher rates of employee movement occur in areas of low unemployment, as would be expected, and varies according to geographical area.In a business where experience is valuable, a high turnover of staff can be damaging. This experience could be of the product, of th

    Accounts Receivable Factoring Companies
As an owner of a company, you may have felt frustrated because your cash is tied up in fixed inventories and so you don’t have enough cash flow to energize your business. And keeping track of the invoices and the slow payments may distract you from the more pressing needs of your business. You approach a bank for a loan, but don't get it. Then, in this scenario, the best option for you is to approach an Accounts Receivable Factoring or Financing Company. An Accounts Receivable Factoring Company will purchase your Accounts Receivable, such as invoices, at a discounted rate. This means that it will purchase them for less than the face value of the invoices. The seller company gets the cash, and the responsibility of collecting the money due becomes that of t

    Cardboard Shredders
Cardboard shredders are machines used to cut materials, especially cardboard, to required sizes. Cardboard shredders help to convert corrugated cardboards and cartons to efficient packaging material, which is essential for the secure transit of the goods. They are available in the market in different models and sizes that can be chosen according to the requirement.Cardboard shredders are commonly used in enterprises such as industries, hotels, offices, schools, warehouses, recycling centers, and especially in shipping centers and packaging companies. Cardboard shredders can also be used for processing materials other than cardboards such as wood, plastic, computer discs, magazines, news papers, videotapes and even small circuit boards.Cardboard shre

Plan your home based child care as a BUSINESS. If this sounds cold-hearted, think again. After all, a successful business is as much about quality as it is about income. No business has a viable future without both of these factors. Identify the main functions involved in caring for children, such as:

    · planning appropriate activities to encourage and support the development of children. Keep a record of these, for your own benefit and as a way of communicating with parents about their children. A recording system can be very simple, but will project your commitment and competence. In a home based care environment, this attention to quality is paramount. Parents DO NOT want children to be in poor environments, no matter how inexpensive!

    · invoicing/receipting fees and general administration. Not only will this satisfy tax requirements in most jurisdictions, but it will reflect an organised approach to administration as well as quantifying the financial success of your business.

    Why not think about:

    · registering an appropriate business name that describes the activity and furnishes you with the basis of developing a “brand”?

    · writing regular fortnightly newsletters for parents, with a bit about what children are experiencing in care and other useful snippets on health, wellbeing, family support services etc?, or, go “one better”

    · establishing a simple, functional and “family-friendly” website with newsletters and other information? (great inexpensive marketing tool if you are looking to attract new care as well)

    · developing ways of collecting feedback from parents and children on a regular and ongoing basis?

Implementing ideas such as the ones above will serve to enrich the quality of your service and will evidence a range of skills in a way that may be beneficial in the future.

How does planning help with future flexibility?

Why would any of this make a difference,
